Our Passion for Cars Started Early
It all began when our owner Mitchell Smith was a kid. He loved anything fast and from age 12 he road and raced his dirt bike. At age 16 his grandfather gave him an old car in need of work. In fact, when Mitchell opened the trunk, he could see the ground! As he knew nothing about auto repair, Mitchell enrolled in his high school automotive shop training class in order to repair and improve this old 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass. After graduating high school and a year of college he decided that his real love was for automobiles so he went on to ITT Technical Institute to receive his Automotive Mechanic Degree. Over time, he would develop an interest in high-performance vehicles and eventually win many trophies over his lifetime!
Throughout his long-term training at dealerships, Mitchell learned how to fix cars, but he also discovered something more important. He observed that the status quo way to service and repair vehicles was inefficient and resulted in a less than satisfactory experience for both the customers and the auto mechanics. The auto technicians who worked on the vehicles never communicated directly with the vehicle owners resulting in less than optimal results.
To Mitchell, that seemed like a huge disconnect because who knows better about their vehicles than the owners? And who knows better about auto repair than highly-skilled auto mechanics? A better way would be for the vehicle owners to make a direct connection with the experienced auto mechanic servicing their car. This could be accomplished by both the customer and their mechanic test driving the vehicle together to more accurately identify, diagnose and address any problems or concerns.
In 1996 the concept for Mechanics Direct was born. Today this concept is still the backbone of our business. Direct communication between vehicle owners and the Mechanics Direct mechanic thereby reducing frustration and expediting solutions resulting in a Superior Car Care Experience!
